Writing

When traveling or living abroad I have always chronicled my experiences. This has resulted in a collection of travel essays spanning nine years and five different countries. My most recent travel blog, ‘The Road to Peace is Paved with Teacups’, narrates my assimilation process into Northern Irish culture and contemporary context. Through monthly essays I reflected on various chapters of (Northern) Irish history and mythology, and how I see those intersecting with my own country’s legacy.

Behind the Scenes - Sketchnoting for my COVID Journal

Sketchnoting is a form of ‘minitiature graphic recording’. Instead of working on large canvases for all to see, you work in notebooks and journals - for clients at events or for yourself. During the year of COVID lockdown, I kept a sketch noted visual journal as a way to capture and digest the unique experiences of 2020 for myself and others.

“These are extraordinary, historic times, and I want to be part of the processing, sense making, and light-making of it. In my COVID journal special, I capture daily impressions as well as larger collective moods & mindsets, to remember this time by. Short entries and simple pen illustrations, to keep the bar low for myself. It's helping me, perhaps there's something in it for you, too.

Here are some selected excerpts from the COVID Journal I ran over the course of 2020, chronicling this year-like-no-other.”
