Visual Storytelling for the COP UN Climate Summits

From 30th November to 13th December 2023 COP28 took place in Dubai, the 28th annual UN climate conference. This year I wasn’t there in person, but I like the previous two years, I did visually support a number of organisations there, including the UN Climate Secretariat.

In this third edition of my COP Visual Reports I have compiled all commissioned graphic recording work, as well as my own visual summaries I made to digest and make sense of the developments in Dubai. I have also included all graphic recordings made across two years of the UNFCCC Global Stocktake process.

My Behind the Scenes articles describe step by step the process of discernment, coordination, delivery and post-production of my various services as a visual practitioner, in the form of case studies of several highlighted projects. In my earlier Visual Blog series I take readers along on my learning journey of my first year of working as an independent visual facilitator and graphic recorder, starting out as a sole trader and creative entrepreneur in the UK.

When traveling or living abroad I have always chronicled my experiences. This has resulted in a collection of travel essays spanning over a decade and five countries. My last travel series, ‘The Road to Peace is Paved with Teacups’, narrates my assimilation process into Northern Irish culture and contemporary context. Through monthly essays I reflected on various chapters of (Northern) Irish history and mythology, and how I saw those intersecting with my own country’s legacy.
